Sometimes, I feel like my interests are diametrically opposed. I love to travel and explore new places. But I also love home. Although I love to adventure, I don’t like to be gone for too long because it makes me feel untethered and unsettled. I lived abroad for a summer in College, where I was lucky enough to see much of Europe. It was one of the first times I was away from home for so long. Not too long ago, I lived in Japan for three years where I had the opportunity to connect with the country my ancestors emigrated so many years ago. Sometimes, I miss those times when I was able to travel internationally with ease. Sometimes I wish the US wasn’t a 10 hour, $900 plane ride away from most other countries. But most of the time, I’m happy where I am and have been lucky enough to create a balance of travel and home time. The time anticipating and actually experiencing travel gives me something to look forward to. It energizes me for the work I do and makes space for bonding time with friends and family. It’s not always easy working full-time and finding space for travel, but I think it’s one of the best things you can invest in.
